To support and develop the capacity of low-income disadvantaged citizens to actively participate in civic life through the Citizens Leadership Initiative.

Pillsbury United Communities (Minneapolis, MN)
To implement a youth mural and performance art initiative as a deterrent to crime; and organize to increase civic engagement around crime, violence, and graffiti reduction issues.

Metropolitan Family Services (Portland, OR)
To create a leadership institute to provide opportunities for persons aged 50+ to combine lifelong learning and civic engagement through education, leadership, and volunteer service.

Jewish Family and Children’s Service (Phoenix, AZ)
To provide opportunities to involve transitioning youth between the ages of 16-18 in civic engagement and advocacy efforts on mental health issues.

Christian Home Association (Council Bluffs, IA)
To help students in the residential treatment program and their parents engage in activities at the state legislature to impact services offered to Iowa children.

Lampion Center (Evansville, IN)
To support “Voices,” a program aimed at empowering undereducated parents to find their voice and to become fully engaged citizens.

Good Will-Hinckley (Hinckley, ME)
To sharpen activities, develop strategies, and to continue dialoging and engaging youth and families on child welfare reform in Maine.

Newark Emergency Services for Families (Newark, NJ)
To support the “From Consumers to Contributors” initiative to empower the working poor and homeless to improve their quality of life and protect their interests.

Cleveland Christian Home (Cleveland, OH)
To support youth participating in transitional employment program to strengthen their community through conducting voter registration efforts.

Impact Northwest (Portland, OR)
To support the PEEP (“Parents of Eastern Europeans in Portland”) to empower Eastern Europeans to navigate school systems and manage the stress of bicultural living with their children.

Family Services of Montgomery County (Eagleville, PA)
To help foster and advance a social and health care agenda to promote awareness and inclusion, and reduce health care and social disparities experienced by Asian Indians and Koreans in Montgomery County.

La Casa de Esperanza (Waukesha, WI)
To broaden civic engagement of the community on issues related to immigrants, Latinos, and the working poor through civic education, policy analysis, and collective action.

Families First (Atlanta, GA)
To engage the community in raising public awareness concerning housing issues impacting financially fragile families.

National Family Week

Family Services of Piedmont (Jamestown, NC)
To conduct a forum focused on community safety including safety watch, safety at home (domestic violence issues).

Child Care Association of Illinois (Evanston, IL)
To focus on foster parent reimbursement through conducting knowledge building training and skill development to advocate with policy makers. Secondly, to conduct a community action forum to encourage joint action on raising foster parent reimbursement.

Community Counseling Center (Portland, ME)
To conduct a community education forum, “Celebrate Diverse Families,” to inform single parent, deaf and hard-of-hearing families, immigrant, LGBT, and other populations about the skills required for advocacy.

Family Service Association (Fall River, MA)
To host a community forum focusing on areas for improvement within the community, specifically related to environmental conservation and “going green.”

Family Service of Central Indiana (Indianapolis, IN)
To convene a community education forum to inform the public about the issues of protecting and making decisions on behalf of incapacitated persons and highlight need for more organized and systematic responses to their needs.

Family Foundations (Jacksonville, FL)
To conduct a “1000 in 1000” community-wide initiative to move 1000 people out of poverty in 1000 days.

Volunteers of America Oregon (Portland, OR)
To provide information on caring for seniors, future-oriented data emphasizing trends, and addressing their changing needs.

Family Service & Children’s Aid (Jackson, MI)
To conduct a community education and engagement forum designed to provide information on parenting resources, and present suggestions to legislators outlining where gaps in services exist that hurt families.

To conduct a community forum focused on the mortgage crisis and explore policy actions to mitigate its impact for Hoosier families.
